Dabo Swinney Isn't A Doctor So Stop Treating Him As Such

Dabo Swinney is not a smart person. He is however the head football coach of arguably the best college program of the last decade in the Clemson Tigers. Now you may have known those things about Dabo, but here’s something you may not know, Dabo Swinney isn’t a doctor or scientist. This is important trust me.

As a football coach of college student-athletes the slogan “leader of men” is often assigned to Swinney and other men like him, who almost exclusively are white and middle age. Swinney, and many of his colleagues who coach at the highest level will make millions off the labor of these student-athletes who won’t get paid and have to incur the greatest risk of contracting Covid-19.

Speaking of that pesky little thing called Covid, you know, the virus that has taken the lives of 250,000 U.S. citizens and seems to be causing more damage now than nine months ago when our nation first began lockdown and precaution measures.

We probably shouldn’t be playing sports at all during this pandemic without a bubble like atmosphere, but capitalism so you know how that goes. With that said, college sports should be even less of a thought, but once again money wins out and supersedes the health of employers, in particular black ones. Black college football players make up roughly half the employers but there are only 14 black head coaches out of 128 FBS programs.

A Covid-19 infection is three times more likely for Black Americans than white Americans according to a report from the National Urban league.

Now to be fair to college football and the leagues around the nation that have decided to play sports during a pandemic there have been Covid guidelines set in place meant to help protect athletes. The league in which Clemson plays, the ACC, has guidelines for the those who contract Covid-19 that includes an isolation period of 10 days.

Clemson coming off a bye and a loss the week before to Notre Dame, had a player test positive for Covid-19 on the day Clemson traveled to Tallahassee to face the Florida State Seminoles. Due to this FSU program and coach Mike Norvell decided to postpone the game in precaution. This didn’t sit right with Dabo and we got this grown man tirade.

Dabo Swinney isn’t a doctor nor does he even choose to present facts that could possibly make you change your line of thinking. With that said, take advice from FSU head coach who may not be as good of a coach as Dabo but is for sure smarter. “Football coaches are not doctors,” Florida State coach Mike Norvell said Monday. “Some of us might think we are, but there's a reason why medical advisers make decisions based on the information that is provided.”

So media do your job and force Dabo to own the fact that he willingly put the lives of his players at risk because he wants to win a football game.

Oh, and does anyone think that Dabo would be so up in arms, if let’s say his team was still undefeated and hadn’t loss to Notre Dame? Remind me why Clemson loss again? Oh yes, their starting quarterback contracted Covid and he had to miss two games. Dabo Swinney is the kid on the playground who ate glue for a bet and loss, and now that someone else might do the same and was stopped is screaming like a brat.

Dabo Swinney isn’t a doctor or a smart enough to realize the dangers of exposing a football team to Covid and I want you guys to start treating him like such, on both fronts.
